A Glimpse Into Oman's Documentary Heritage Humaid Siaf Al Nofli | Director of the Department of Culture, The Oman National Commisson for Education, Culture, and Science
1. The reality of documentary heritage and its conservation efforts:
First: Government Institutions:
1. The Ministry of Heritage and Culture: Established in 1976, the ministry made great
efforts in relation to collecting and preserving documentary heritage through its
Manuscripts House. It bought manuscripts from citizens.
2. The National Records and Archives Authority, which has made great efforts in the
preservation of documents. It honored many of document owners.
3. The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (Recently adopted the e-Library project
aimed at preserving manuscripts in digitized forms using modern technology).
4. Sultan Qaboos University: It has an electronic project similar to that of The Ministry
of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
5. Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science.
Second: Non-governmental institutions:
There is a significant number of NGOs, including:
Sayyid Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Busaidi library in the city of Seeb, Imam Nur Al
Din Al Salmi library in the city of Bidiya, Imam Nasser bin Rashid Al Kharousi library
in the city of Awabi, Hamra Waqf library in the city of Hamra, Sheikh Hamoud Al
Sawafi library in Sinaw of the city of Mudhaibi, Waqf Bani Saif library in the city
of Nizwa, Judge Malik bin Mohammed Al Abri library in the city of Muscat, Sheikh
Saeed bin Khalaf Al Khorousi library in the city of Bawshar, Sheikh Ali bin Salem Al
Hajari Library in Bidiya, Sheikh Salem bin Hamad Al Harthy Library in the city of Al
Mudhairib, Sheikh Hassan bin Mahfouz Al Khazraji Library in Khasab, SayyidSharaf
Al Arab Al Musawi Library in Muscat, Sheikh Ali bin Ibrahim Kutah Library in Suhar,
Sheikh Hamad bin Saud Al Khanjari Library in the city of Muttrah, Al Qalam Library
in Salalah and many other rich libraries.
