Islands of Korea, Islands of the World Jisimdo Island in Geoje Emerges Island Story
Noteworthy Island Regional Specialization Project
as a Wedding Destination
BUSINESS 2. A special vow renewal ceremony was recently held on
Jisimdo Island in Geoje.
The event was uniquely meaningful, as it was planned by island
residents themselves—part of their ongoing efforts to revive Jisimdo’s
former identity as “Dongbaekseom” (Camellia Island) and reimagine it
as a space for unforgettable life experiences.
On November 30, the Korea Island Development Institute (KIDI), in
partnership with Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government and Geoje
City, hosted a vow renewal ceremony for three local couples.
The event was part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Island
Regional Specialization Project, which aims to transform the island into
a distinctive wedding and photo shoot destination—centered on its
iconic camellia forests and natural coastal beauty.

More than just a celebration, the event
highlighted Jisimdo Island’s potential to evolve
into a one-of-a-kind wedding destination—
beyond its reputation as a popular trekking spot
for camellia blossoms.
