                                                                       Geumodo Island – The Royal Favorite,

                                                                       Geumodo Island earned its nickname, Geomudo
                  You’ll Want to Know
                                                                       (Black Island), because its dense forests of dark pine
                                                                       trees made it appear pitch-black from afar. This island
                                                                       was a treasure of the Joseon Dynasty, providing
                                                                       timber essential for royal court construction.
                                                                       Geumodo was designated as a Royal Wood Factory,
                                                                       with its forests strictly protected to ensure a steady
                                                                       supply of high-quality wood.
                  The Korea Island Development Institute
                  (KIDI), in partnership with the Ministry of
                  the Interior and Safety, selects an Island
                  of the Month to spotlight and celebrate
                  Korea’s rich island heritage. Chosen by a
                  selection committee of island experts and
                  representatives from 36 local governments
                  with islands, the featured island becomes
                  the centerpiece of activities like the On-Site
                  Forum, KIDI Academy Field Trip, and the
                  Island Trail Project. These stories showcase
