Islands of Korea, Islands of the World “Island Day” Commemorative Event KIDI Now
: Boryeong Filled with Excitement
International Forums, Talk Concerts, and Island Experiences Draw Thousands
“Our Islands, Truly Wonderful.”
The 2024 Island Day celebration was held on August 8 in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do.
Designated as a national holiday, “Island Day” is celebrated annually to highlight the value
and importance of Korea’s islands.
Past host cities have included:
▲ 2019 (1st) Mokpo & Shinan

Famous for its globally recognized Mud Festival, Boryeong is also an island city home to Following the commemorative ceremony, a
more than 70 islands including Wonsando and Sapsido. celebratory performance was held by singers Ha
Hyun-woo, Kang Hye-yeon, and QWER, who had
been appointed as public relations ambassadors for
the 5th Island Day.
Vol.03 Throughout the four days, various attractions and
experiences were offered across island locations,
including:
▲ Baekseom Baekgil Trail walks on Sapsido and
Hyojado Islands
▲ Wonsando tidal flat mud experience center
▲ Godaedo missionary island cultural tour featuring

Korea Island Development Institute Promotional Exhibition in Operation
In addition, regional specialty products from islands
across the country were featured and sold in a
special marketplace. The Korea Island Development
Institute (KIDI) organized four key events, including :
- The 7th Korea Island Forum
(International Academic Conference)
- The KIDI Academy Talk Concert
- Operation of a KIDI promotional booth
- A Specialized Business Promotion Exhibition Hall
The KIDI Academy Talk Concert was held at the
Boryeong Mud Theme Park, where island activists
discussed topics such as “Islands You Want to Visit”
and “How Far Have You Traveled to Uninhabited
Islands?”, along with climate experts who spoke on
“Blue Sky, Red Earth”—a climate story centered on
islands.
