                                                “Jingle bells, jingle bells~”
The joyful sound of carols fills the streets, and festive trees twink-
le on every corner. It’s clear that the end of the year is near—
Christmas celebrations, year-end gatherings, and New Year’s
events fill our calendars. But on quiet island villages, a different
                                                 kind of December unfolds.

“Year-end in an island village where no carols are heard”

It’s not easy to feel the Christmas spirit on a remote island.
There are no festive streets filled with music, no sparkling trees
                                                 lighting up the neighborhood.
To enjoy cultural events, islanders often need to board a boat and
travel to the mainland. Because of time, distance, and limited

                                                 restricted than in urban areas.

For many island residents, the year-end holidays are something Elderly residents of Oedaldo Island create their own Christmas trees.
they experience only indirectly—through a small TV screen.
