Especially during rainy weather, the risk of
electric shock and poor nighttime visibility
posed serious safety and security challenges.

 Vol.03 City Neon Signs,
 Small Lights in Island Villages

The dazzling neon signs of a bustling city. The quiet, sparkling glow
of light in an island village. Which is more beautiful?

Everyone may define beauty differently, but one thing is certain: In a
city, flipping a switch doesn’t change the world around you. But on an
island, a single light can transform everything. One small beam can
brighten an entire village—or leave it in darkness.

To help build a safer and brighter island, the Korea Island
Development Institute (KIDI) brought the gift of light to island resi-
dents. This was part of a joint social contribution initiative with the
Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA) and Korea
 Electric Power Industrial Development (KEPID).

The project took place on Wonsando Island in Boryeong, Chungche-
ongnam-do—the host site of the 5th Island Day, lending the effort
 even more meaning.
