Gender Equality
Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "All
human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one
another in a spirit of brotherhood". Alongside the declaration, many
societies worldwide have battled against various inequalities one after
another. There have been some achievements, but discrimination and
violence on gender issues still have many works to be done to overcome
issues.
Uncountable women and girls are neglected from education, social
systems, public life, and other fundamental human rights due to their
gender. Because of their gender, they are likely to become subjects of all
forms of violence and harmful deeds. Every woman and girl should enjoy
their fundamental rights and be recognized as an equal member of their
societies like any other. Sustainable Development Goal 5 aims to gain
gender equality by eliminating discrimination and violence against women
to ensure their rights and social participation.
Despite limitations, we can witness the wonders of female figures through
past documentations. They were makers and contributors of legacies we
enjoy and heroes we look up to. Moreover, a gradual and overall alleviation
of the current inequality could bring the genuine development of
humankind. How would the future be on gender equality, and what would
be recorded on its behalf?
